Each handmade Oaxacan red clay bowl is handcrafted in collaboration with women artisans, and hand painted by Jaguar in the Útera studio in Oaxaca city.
The clay, called barro rojo, gets its deep terracotta-red hue from a high iron content in the soil around Oaxaca. When fired, it develops warm tones that range from rusty orange to deep brick red without artificial coloring.
